Squidoo Tips for Affiliate Links

Marketing on Squidoo is largely down to having a plan, and now that you have some idea of the best way to build your Squidoo lens, you can start to decide what subject you’ll write about and get planning how it will all work together.

First you need a subject that you really want to write about. Having a passion for the subject is the key, because you’ll stop looking at it as work, it’s easier and more fun to do, and the money just becomes a very nice bonus. You’ll also be able to sell other people’s products to people with a similar passion, because you’ll be on their wave length, speaking their language, and you’ll know what they’re looking for. So let’s get started.

If you have a real interest in the subject you’ve created your lens about, it’ll show. People will pickup on the fact that you enjoy the subject, and that you know what you’re talking about, especially if you’re able to use terms that are relevant to the topic. If they feel you know what you’re talking about they’re more likely to follow any advice that you have to offer – this can work very well if you have two or three affiliate links scattered around the content of your lens.

Of course, having more than just a superficial knowledge of the topic can be of benefit to you when it comes to selecting the products you’re going to place your links to. If you understand the people reading the content of your lens you’ll know the sorts of things that may be of interest, or concern, to them. With that knowledge you can start looking for an affiliate product that will solve some problem that they may have.

One of the best places to find affiliate products that you can link to in your content is Clickbank. If you don’t know anything about Clickbank let me give you a few brief details. The first of the things you’ll want to know is it’s free to join. Next, it’s a site that promotes digital download products like eBooks, it has categories that cover a wide range of topics (you’ll be surprised what some people are selling eBooks about), and finally, probably the biggest plus when it comes to digital products, you can make up to 75% commission per sale – I’ll just repeat that bit in the language of money – you could be making anything from $30 - $60 per sale.

Now, how would you like to make $60 just by writing about something you like, putting an affiliate link in the text to a product that’s relevant to what you’ve been talking to your readers about, you don’t have to own the website with the product or deliver it to the customer, and it won’t cost you anything at any step of the way except for some of your time – sounds pretty good doesn’t it?

When you join Clickbank it can be easy to get carried away with always searching out the newest and hottest items, now while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, the best thing to do is go for something that will be a consistent seller for a much longer time, and this where knowing your subject will help again.

If possible try making a note of three or four topics you’d be able to write about with some authority. Next, have a look at Clickbank to see what’s available to sell under those topics. Make sure the commission’s good for the items you see; you’ll want two per topic. Then decide if there’s some way you’ll be able to, realistically, work in a link to that product. If the products solve problems that you know are going to be common to most of the people reading the lens, then you may have found yourself a winner – or more than one if you haven’t eliminated all of the rest of your topics!

People are always looking for answers to their problems, and you could be the one to provide it for them - in the future you might even be able to link directly to a product of your own.

If you need a Squidoo tutorial on how to get your links setup, or just how many and where to place them so as to gently squeeze the profits from your lens, they I highly recommend Social Marketing 101
